Current Tariff Options
by admin on 31/01/09 at 6:06 pm
As most of my readers know, I was recently in the market for a new handset and tariff to go with it. Now, I expected to see lots of handsets on offer, from all of the various manufacturers, that has always been the case, but what surprised me was the amount of tariffs available when you go into a Vodafone or O2 store etc. I mean, there were always a few tariffs to choose from and a whole host of mobile phones, but these days it appears to have gotten crazy.
I was in the Vodafone store and had to review over 15 different tariff options, all offering various inclusive packages such as minutes and texts but also, some of the offers were bolted on with free gifts and mobile broadband. I even saw some tariffs that offered some discount off a holiday? It’s certainly changed a lot since the last time I took on a mobile contract. I actually felt quite old. Anyway, for those interested, I decided to pick up the new Nokia and got myself the cheapest tariff possible. I don’t need inclusive minutes or texts, hopefully people will call me and not the other way around!
Conference Call Users
Conferencing calling used to be something that you only associated with large company owners and powerful business owners. This, in the past was purely due to the costs involved. Conference calling used to be extremely expensive and as a result, only the larger companies and corporations had the in-house facilities available to cater for a 3-way or more call. Others simply didn’t
This however is no longer the case, mainly due to the upsurge in third party conference calling services appearing in the market. Such companies offer their services to anyone, whether you’re an individual or multinational business. These companies make it feasible for any company to setup and host conference calls for as little as $20 per month in some cases – a far cry from the thousands of dollars it costs to setup a conference call system of your own.
So, whether you’re the CEO of a large business or you simply want to chat with a couple of small clients at the same time, conference calling is a definite option.
Mobile Phone Network Help Desks
I have been an avid mobile phone users for many, many years and have had to spend a lot of time on the phone for support during that time. Mainly due to upgrades, contract changes and call quality issues. On occasion, I have become very stressed due to the level of technical knowledge available to the help desk staff and their overall condescending tone. Luckily for me, and you, the large mobile phone networks in the United Kingdom in particular, are now outsourcing all of their help desk services to third party companies who have the knowledge and special training to support their service at the highest level.
I realise that help desk outsourcing might not appeal to everyone, particularly the end users but believe me,
the third party companies that handle the support, not just of your mobile phone account but ANY accounts are more than capable and often have a much higher level of support specific training than the staff in house, in the UK at the mobile networks internal support office. It is a known fact that people who are trained to handle support do a better job of it than those who only posses the technical knowledge.
Prepaid Phone Cards – The future of public phone calling.
I am aware that all my readers have mobile / cellular phones – if you don’t then you’re at the wrong blog
I also know that you (and I) are members of some of the most expensive networks on
the planet when it comes to International Calling. I know my own network, O2 offers unbelievable savings when calling other O2 mobiles or even sending an SMS – but – when it comes to phoning my parents back in the United Kingdom or calling my clients in the United States, it’s a completely different story. I am sure I have lost a great deal of business over time, purely due to the fact that I am so reluctant to return calls to foreign countries when I’m on the move. But, alas, I think I have found the solution and they are, wait for it, prepaid phone cards. These are absolute fantastic for International calls when you’re out and about. The savings are just a bonus.
Phone cards, or calling cards as they are often referred to enable you to make prepaid calls from a regular phone at a much, much cheaper rate than your landline provider and certainly a lot cheaper than your cellular / mobile.
A popular phone card provider is NobelCom. The NobelCom prepaid phone cards are some fo the best on the market, not just because of the savings that can be enjoyed but the features available too. It really makes using phone cards as easy as possible, even for a new / novice user like me.
Phone Cards? We promise savings!
Quite a bold statement to use for a title I know, but it’s really true. I know, I was probably more skeptical than most being a telecommunications enthusiast but when I tried to use a phone card for the first time I was surprised to say the least! Not just because of the savings I made when calling New Zealand, but because of how easy the are to use. I remember my first experience with calling cards many, many years ago and it wasn’t a good one. All sorts of codes to enter just to make a call and then being disconnected due to lack of funds after just a few minutes.
I am pleased to say that this now does not appear to be the case. The features have improved greatly since my first negative experience. You too can enjoy prepaid calling cards and the benefits that go with them as well as the huge savings.
If you look around, you will find a number of companies offering free calling cards which will allow you a 15 minute trial. This is a great way to try them out if you’re in need of the savings but are just simply unsure of how to go about using one. I know it can be quite daunting at first, but rest assured, you will save money and will use them in the future.
Prepaid Calling – Much easier than it used to be!
I have recently started calling clients abroad more and more often and have been looking for a few ways to make cheaper calls.
Particularly to the US and Europe to no avail. I mean, there are the obvious online options such as Skype and other VoIP providers such as Vonage – but that doesn’t cut it when you’re out and about on the move, visiting local clients and so on. I do however think I have found a solution to mine (and your) problems and they are BananaCall calling cards. I know a lot of my readers are already familiar with calling cards and already enjoy the benefits of low cost international calling, so this is more for those who are not aware of the savings they can enjoy.
The best calling cards out there appear to be BananaCall calling cards, purely because of their extremely low rates and features such as prepaid calling cards and pinless dialing. Their prepaid calling rates are some of the best around. Prepaid calling also eliminates the need of carrying so much change around.
You could of course just use your cellular but who exactly wants to pay $5 a minute to call Europe? I certainly don’t!
When Ringtones Are Too Common
If you check out the internet, you will be able to obtain many ringtones for free. The only bad thing about free ringtones is that you are more likely to bump into someone else with the same ringtone as yours. This might create confusion but there is a way to solve this problem. When you download ringtones from the free sites, make sure you download the weird stuff where there might be a possibility that not many people have the same ringtones, and the ringtones are distinctive. Otherwise, you might want to get some mp3 ringtones for free that are different from anything else you have in your phone.
It might be difficult to get something different and unique on the internet, when everyone else can access the same site and download the same ringtones. Therefore, you might want to create your own ringtones – especially if you are good at audio programmes. All you need is a PC or a laptop with the right software to create your own remixes of the songs you like, or cut a portion of the song to make it distinctive so the next time your phone rings, you know it is yours. This way you can create as many different and unique ringtones you need, and perhaps you can do the same for your friends.
Instant messaging overseas
Cellular phones have created a new way to communicate, regardless of the distances and the country where the receptive cellular phone is. This “new” and buoyant form of communication is text messaging. Through text messages, people can communicate all their thoughts, fears, ideas, feelings and even news as they experience them in the moment they are, wherever they might be physically at that moment.
Indeed it is a wonderful way to communicate and it is simple enough to handle; all you will need to do is to put a “+” (plus) sign before the 10 digits that are required: Area code and phone number.
That is all that it takes; however, if for whatever reason you fail or miss to add the “+” the message will not end in the cellular phone that you are sending the message to but rather in the cellular phone of a stranger.
Therefore, it is recommendable that you send first a “test message” to a friend’s cellular phone overseas before sending more personal messages, ask him or her to answer and store the ID number as it shows on your screen, most cellular phones have an option to store as many numbers for a specific contact as you might need.
Eliminating Common Conference Call Mistakes
Conference calling is a very important business tool for any company large and small alike.
However, there are common mistakes that people in the conference call world make on a regular basis that can create unnecessary stress for all of the parties involved in the call.
One of the best features of phone conference service is the ability to dial into a call without having to be sitting behind your desk at the office or in a crowded boardroom. The problem that arises, however, is background noise. Background noise can disrupt the entire conference call. Use the Mute button on your phone, especially if you are not the leader of the conference call, when you are not verbally participating in the call.
Some phones include a Hold music feature. This can be disturbing to all participants in the call should you have to put the conference call line on Hold.
Ideally during a conference call, all participants should be using headsets plugged into landlines, however this is somewhat impossible. If you use a cell phone, cordless phone or wireless headset, be sure there is not any disruptive static on your line.
Use a speakerphone only when you have to and never use call waiting during phone conferencing.
Individualizing a cellular phone
Cellular phone users like to be trendy and to have their cellular phones reflecting what they like and who they are far beyond what is available in the market. One option for those individualism and originality avid users is to change the outside skeleton of their cellular phone and replace it with one of the several mass produced ones; of course, this will provide them with just a specific degree of originality since there are more out there.
Others will tend to favor and take the risk of choosing “cellular painters”, workshops and underground stores that, in essence, strip the cellular phone, repaint the outside skeleton with any choice of spray paint that the customer wants and then refurbish the cellular phone with it’s “new repainted” skeleton. This might sound great, but it also is risky since spray paint will fade out quickly and the solvents used in this type of paint corrode the plastic outside skeleton of the cellular phone. The result is a corrupted outside skeleton that might damage the functionality of the cellular phone machinery.
The idea of individualizing a cellular phone is indeed a good idea and it will also function to protect it, but the owner needs to be extremely careful on how does he or she decide to make this happen, otherwise he or she will only ruin a perfectly good cellular phone and loose any and all data stored in it.
